What's to be found for India ?
Any collection of world coins would be rather lacking if it was without at least something pertaining to India. The sub-continent has very much to offer in numismatic terms, for reasons such as its vast history and periods of colonisation. So of course I have many Indian coins in my collection of world coins and always have had. The fact that there are over two-thousand one-hundred coins of India that fit my usual collecting criteria, means that I have quite some number still to persue for my collection.
So of course you will wonder, how could it be that there are so many Indian coins for me to collect ? Well you may be a little more amazed when I remind you that my main collecting area covers coins by type, date, mint and variety from just 1900 to 1990 and I do not collect proof coins or any in metals more precious than silver either. Yet still, with these limitations, there are so many needed for my collection.
India’s coins of 1900 onwards breakdown into 5 sections .....
British India -- Portuguese India -- Indian Princely States
Republic of India - First Coinage
-- Republic of India - Decimal Coinage
