A great number of India's coins for the first half of this century were of course the British India series. The range of denominations, plus the continuous year after year issuance of coins of many of these denominations, goes a long way towards this part of the India series being quite large on its own. The monetary system was 3 Pies to 1 Pice, 4 Pice to 1 Anna and 16 Annas to 1 Rupee. Furthermore there was extensive use during most of this period of both Bombay and Calcutta mints. For about all pieces made by these two mints there is some way of easy attribution to the mint concerned, though mint marks are seldom actual letters. The mint at Lahore, in what was India but is now Pakistan and the mint in Pretoria, South Africa, were used too for a few later issues. There are a number of other variations seen in this series, most of these are concerned with composition changes or slight design changes.
(Sometime I hope to have a list of types or at least a few pictures
to represent this series from the pieces I have.)
