A REAL "COLLECTOR'S" ITEM...

INTRO...

This is the bi-metallic token of the WORLDWIDE BI-METALLIC COLLECTORS CLUB is illustrated above. It has been "issued" by the WBCC upon the occasion of their first birthday, this was on September 14th 1997.

DESIGN

The observe of the piece depicts a clean Global World drawing which overlaps the center and ring. The text in the ring is 'WORLDWIDE BI-METALLIC COLLECTORS CLUB'. The text in the center will be 'ESTABLISHED 14-9-1996'. The reverse has been left blank (to save die costs).

GENERAL APPEARANCE AND DIMENSIONS

The "yellow" ring, the "silver" coloured centre, plain edge, normal (uncirculated) finish.

Overall diameter 25.65 mm, thickness 2.25 mm and weight 7 grams.

MANUFACTURE

The pieces were made by the Mauquoy Token Company of Belgium, using a 350 tonne coining press, running at 650 pieces per minute.The original plan was to have produced 100 pieces only, with an issue price of 6.50 US Dollars (postage and handling not incuded). As it turned out 113 pieces were produced, this included 13 struck in the 1.2 seconds it took the operator to switch off the machine. The "issue" price to WBCC members and all other interested parties remained at 6.50 US Dollars. (WBCC is a non-profit organisation.)

MY PURCHASE

I purchased one example of this issue for myself and quite possibly it is still the only one in this country. I received it on 1st November 1997 and so it must have been sent to me when the pieces were first ready for distribution.
