Single Dieletters
A
-
This single dieletter was to be seen on a coin illustrated in a leaflet.
It was a £1 coin (original series) in unstated metal. Perhaps from
a "master die" for the "AA", "AB" etc.. coins. No coins of this piece are
known. Similarly there is a £5 of 1981 lustrated with dieletter "A"
on the blisterpack (presentation pack), no coins of this piece are known
either.
B and C
-
These single dieletters are to be found on Platinum and Gold respectively(?)
off metal strikes of the circulation coins and other "precious metal only"
series. These are of little interest to me - due to expense and scarcity.
D and E
-
These single dieletters are used on proof silver pieces. Mainly seen on
50 Pences (also Ag versions of coins normally made from Virenium) Up to
now the only pieces on which I have seen an "E" are a Silver Proof 50 Pence
dated 1979, the Day of Tynwald "July 5th" type with Royal Visit Edge inscription
and a Silver Proof 1 Pound dated 1978. The SCWC (Krause Publication) currently
omits the "E" dieletter for any such pieces.
F
-
This single dieletter is known on BU silver, one imagines that the easiest
place to find this "F" will be on 1979 dated 50 Pences pieces. I have not
seen any pieces with "F" though I have not seen any Silver BU 50 Pences.
The SCWC (Krause Publications) currently omits the "F" dieletter for any
such pieces.
H
-
A single "H" appears on both sides of this token I recently came across.
I didn't try to make it so that you could see the dieletters - so to help
you find them... The dieletter "H" on the obverse is on the ankle of the
lower leg where is spur attaches, also on this side near the "U" in "POUND"
and just within the ring around the triskelion there is the "PM" mintmark.
The dieletter "H" on the reverse is on the tip of the sea nearest to the
"D" in "TYNWALD".

X
-
There was just one of the 1973 Sovereigns made with this dieletter, this
coin was donated to the Save the Children Fund.
A, B, C, D and E as a series
-
These were used as a series on the "St. George and the Dragon" gold sovereign
series. The 5 Pounds of 1973 is known with all five dieletters "A" thru'
"E". Published figures say that with "A" there are 823 pieces, with "B"
there are 658 pieces, with "C" there are 712 pieces, with "D" there are
658 pieces and with "E" there are just 33 pieces. Other types/dates do
not see use of so many different dieletters. Information published for
Pobjoy tells us that only one reverse die was used for the half sovereigns
of 1973. Coins in this series are not of great interest to me - due to
expense and scarcity.
Miscellaneous
-
Various other single dieletters appear on some Gold only series and some
Platinum only series. On these the dieletter is used to indicate a special
batch of coins being struck for a particular event. These are of little
interest to me - due to expense and scarcity.
