Elongates of the British Isles

Elongates in other parts of the world.

As mentioned before the U.S.A. has many elongates, in fact VERY many relative to the number of designs known for the rest of the world. Collectors of elongates in the U.S.A. find between them around 10 new designs every week. A few machines there are intended for elongating pieces of other denominations. For example, elongated quarter dollar coins are starting to show up more and more.

Elongate machines are also know in France, Germany, Sweden and New Zealand to name but a few.

The "elongating" of coins is still outlawed in some countries...

In Canada there are a few "rogue" rollers, but they risk being fined 2000 dollars and two years imprisonment !

In Japan elongates are also forbidden, although Tokyo Disneyland solves the problem by providing a coin blank, or planchet. They first tried a copper coloured blank in 1997, but (like copper) it discoloured, so they switched to a nickel coloured metal.
